Cabernet Cubin
This new breed was produced in 1970 as a cross of the Blauer Limberger (Blaufränkisch) and the Cabernet Sauvignon grape. Entry in the official German varieties register followed in 1999 and since then this variety has been enjoying increasing popularity. The size of the grapes and their structure are greatly reminiscent of its ‘paternal grape’ i.e. the Cabernet Sauvignon. It is a late-ripening variety whose demands regarding location resemble the ones of the Pinot Noir (Spätburgunder). The wines possess a pronounced Cabernet Sauvignon character, boast an intense colour and are big on tannins and fruity aromas. The Cabernet Cubin should age in wooden vats.
