Kerner
A cross of the Trollinger and the Riesling grape, this is a fairly robust variety. The Kerner prefers vineyard locations of medium quality with good soil where it will produce wines that, due to their high degree of acidity, are slightly reminiscent of the Riesling. As Spätlese (late vintage) wines, Kerner wines are robust, rounded and nutty with an agreeable acidity. Simple Kerner wines should ideally be drunk when they are young and fresh.
