Rieslaner
The Rieslaner dates back to 1921 and is a cross between the Riesling and the Silvaner grape. Although, so far it has mainly been grown in Franconia (Northern Bavaria), this grape variety has now also found its way into the Palatinate. As it tends to have high levels of acidity, it should be used as a basis for ‘Spätlese’ (late vintage wines) or ‘Auslese’ (high quality wines made from selected grapes). In good locations or during sunny years, this variety produces extraordinary wines. Its typical aromas are reminiscent of citrus, passion fruit or peach.
