Pinot Noir (Spätburgunder)

The Spätburgunder or Pinot Noir is one of the most important and highest quality red wine grape varieties and one of the oldest cultivated grapes known to mankind. The name ‘Pinot‘ may have originated from ‘pin’, the French word for ‘pinecone’ and is therefore associated with the shape of the grape bunch. It makes great demands on vineyard location and climate. It also requires good, fertile and deep soil. If all these requirements are met, this grape variety can result in elegant and rounded red wines with delicately fruity and earthy aromas. These days, Pinot Noir variations such as the Pinot Noir Weißherbst or the trendy Blanc de Noirs are very popular.
