Equipped for the future

Today, an open, innovative and young executive and supervisory board are in charge of the destinies of the Winzerverein. Its continuous efforts are focussed on improving the quality of the wine whilst considering the needs of the environment and of nature. 440 members – male and female vintners – (180 of them supply the association with their grapes) are committed to it. They cultivate around 170 hectares of vineyards, which lie sheltered at the foot of the Haardtgebirge hills and whose names are evocative of some great and renowned wines: Paradiesgarten, Herrgottsacker, Kieselberg, Grainhübel, Leinhöhle and Mäushöhle in Deidesheim; Ungeheuer and Pechstein in Forst as well as Reiterpfad in Ruppertsberg. This is a region where above all the Riesling grape thrives, which is where the strength of the vintners’ association lies: approx. 67% of the overall vine-covered area is planted up with this very desirable grape variety. In addition, grapes such as the Rivaner, the Gewürztraminer, the Morio-Muskat, the Pinot Gris and the Pinot Blanc round off the tasting experience of the white wine drinker. Classical red wine grapes such as the Dornfelder, the Pinot Noir and the Portugieser have recently been joined by new arrivals: international grape varieties such as the Merlot and the Cabernet Sauvignon are now part of the standard range.
