Regent is a new grape created from crossing the Diana grape (Silvaner and Müller-Thurgau) with the Chambourcin grape and received its first German certification as recently as 1995. It is one of the most important mould-resistant quality grapes in the world. It ripens early, produces above-average must weights and is less vulnerable to winter frosts, which means that it may also be cultivated in marginal red-wine locations. The wines are colour-intensive, strong, tannin-emphasised and possess an almost Mediterranean character.
