Probably the most well-known and best location in the Palatinate. The slight sloping towards the south-east facilitates the ability of the soil and particularly of the basaltic rock to absorb the sun's heat. The mottled sandstone with layers of sand and clay, which, in this location, contain chalky deposits, are also responsible for optimum water management and mineral extraction.
The wines are delicately fruity, rich in minerals and frequently very dense and full-bodied.
